A Multi-Layered Cloud Data Security, Recovery and Fault-Tolerant Architecture

Author : Anoop Srivastava and Dr. Shakeeb Khan

Abstract

Cloud computing offers flexible and scalable storage, computing, and application services; however, its reliance on shared infrastructures and remotely managed service providers introduces ongoing security challenges, including unauthorized access, data loss, data corruption, service interruptions, and limited system visibility. This study presents a research-paper adaptation of the security, integrity, backup, and recovery components described in the doctoral paper. The proposed approach emphasizes a multi-layered cloud security architecture that integrates AES-256 encryption, multi-region data replication, erasure coding, cryptographic integrity verification, role-based access control, multi-factor authentication, continuous monitoring, and anomaly detection** to strengthen data protection, reliability, and service continuity.

The paper also investigates several recovery strategies, including replacement-based recovery, Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), immutable backup systems, and cloud-to-cloud backup mechanisms. In addition, a blocking coordinated checkpointing protocol is explored to support the recovery of distributed processes in environments where multiple failures may occur. The study further evaluates cloud security risks by considering asset impact, threat frequency, and vulnerability severity, incorporating fuzzy evaluation and entropy-based weighting within a hierarchical risk assessment framework.

The reported analytical results show meaningful relationships among encryption strength, access-control effectiveness, data redundancy, integrity verification and anomaly-detection efficiency. The proposed architecture is therefore interpreted as a layered design in which confidentiality, availability, integrity and recoverability reinforce one another. The paper does not introduce new experimental measurements beyond those reported or illustrated in the paper; instead, it consolidates the paper evidence into a focused research-paper format.
