Abstract
Kho-Kho stands out as one of India's oldest traditional sports, known for its fast-paced action, quick direction changes, and the need for agility, speed, balance, coordination, and sharp decision-making. The game’s dynamic nature requires players to have a high level of motor fitness and psychomotor efficiency. Among the various modern training techniques, ladder training has proven to be a fantastic way to boost agility, footwork, neuromuscular coordination, reaction time, and overall athletic performance. This review brings together existing research on how ladder training impacts motor fitness and psychomotor performance in Kho-Kho players, as well as athletes in similar intermittent sports. We looked at relevant studies published from 2000 to 2025, drawing from peer-reviewed journals, books, conference proceedings, and online databases. The literature consistently shows that incorporating ladder training into regular training routines significantly improves agility, speed, balance, coordination, reaction time, and lower limb power. These enhancements lead to better chasing efficiency, evasive maneuvers, and overall performance in Kho-Kho matches. However, despite the growing body of evidence supporting ladder training, there’s still a lack of focused research specifically on Kho-Kho players, which points to the need for more sport-specific studies. In conclusion, ladder training is an effective and cost-efficient strategy that can be seamlessly integrated into training programs at schools, colleges, and elite levels to boost motor fitness and psychomotor skills among Kho-Kho athletes.
