Author : Akshitha Jain, Tejaswini A and Dr. Nischay N Gowda
Abstract
The research paper explores the evolution and significance of minimal furniture design, focusing on its forms and shapes, while presenting it as a sustainable and future-oriented trend in interior architecture. Minimal furniture emphasizes ergonomics, structure clarity, and space optimization, offering a counterpoint to the prevailing trend of bulky and visually overpowering furniture. This study examines the contemporary scenario, where furniture often prioritizes aesthetics over functionality, leading to issues such as inefficient use of space and discomfort.
Through a comparative analysis of current furniture trends and minimal designs, the paper highlights how minimalism fosters simplicity, elegance, and utility without compromising comfort. Organic style furniture, characterized by clean lines and natural forms, emerges as a key component, bridging aesthetics and ergonomics. A survey conducted as part of this research reveals a growing consumer preference for minimal furniture due to its adaptability to modern living spaces and its potential to enhance spatial efficiency.
The findings underscore that minimal furniture aligns with sustainable design principles by reducing material usage and encouraging longevity. By addressing psychological and functional needs, such as clarity and ease of use, minimal furniture forms foster a harmonious living environment. This paper concludes that minimal furniture represents a paradigm shift in design, catering to the demands of contemporary lifestyles while paving the way for a sustainable future in interior spaces.
